William Roland “Bill” Danneil, of Des Plaines, died quietly at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, in Park Ridge, on Sunday, April 11, 2021, at the age of 82. He had been in and out of the hospital six times in the last year, with varying conditions; this time his kidneys failed, and he was not able to tolerate dialysis.
He was a gentle and sweet man, who was always there to help others. He was active in his church, Bethlehem Lutheran, in Evanston, where he had grown up, serving as Elder, most recently. He had worked in construction for many years, just as his father had. For several years, he volunteered at the Frisby Senior Center Resale Shop, in Des Plaines, fixing things before sale. A U.S. Army Veteran, Bill served as President of Veterans for Unification.
He never married but was devoted to family. He and his brother, Irv, took care of their parents for years. For the last year, Irv has been taking care of Bill. Although he couldn’t carry a tune, he would make up little songs about everyday things and sing them. His phone calls were not very long, but he would call family just to check up on them.
His parents, Roland and Erma Danneil, brother, David, and sister, Anne Spalla, preceded him in death. He is survived by his brothers, Irving and Bruce Danneil, his sister, Mary Lou Brady, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, their children, and their children’s children.
Visitation, Thursday, April 15, 2021, from 10 a.m. until time of Funeral Service, 11 a.m., at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1334 Wesley Ave., Evanston. [Please note: Face masks and social distancing required at church.]
