Victoria M. “Vicky” Rudnick, nee Szymczak, age 96, passed away on Wednesday, December 18, 2019, in Sun City West, AZ, after a brief illness. She was a beloved wife, devoted mother, cherished sister, and an awesome aunt. She was known for her positive outlook on life, love of music, good humor, and her ever-present smile.
Born on February 15, 1923, in Evanston, IL, to Jan and Victoria Szymczak, she was the baby of the family. During her life she worked as a hair stylist and office assistant at several businesses in the northern suburbs of Chicago. She was a member of the Polish Woman’s Alliance.
Vicky married the love of her life, Ted Rudnick, on June 26, 1948. They welcomed their son, Edward, into their family in 1957, and he was their pride and joy. He passed away in 1984 and always held a very special place in their hearts.
Vicky and Ted made their home in Skokie, IL, and then moved to Arizona in the early 1990’s. Throughout their married life they enjoyed getting together with family members, dancing, and socializing with friends. They were known for the gracious way they entertained those who came to their home.
In addition to her husband, son, and parents, Vicky was also preceded in death by her siblings and their spouses: John (Lucille), Victor, Jane, Lottie, Stephanie, and Stephen (Rosella) Szymczak.
Family was always top of mind for Vicky and left to treasure her memory are her sister-in-law, Irene Rudnick, and ten nieces and nephews.
Visitation, Saturday, December 28, 2019, from 9 a.m. until time of Prayers, 10:15 a.m., at HABEN Funeral Home & Crematory, 8057 Niles Center Rd., Skokie. Mass of Christian Burial, 10:30 a.m., at St. Peter Catholic Church, 8100 Niles Center Rd., Skokie. Interment, St. Adalbert Catholic Cemetery, Niles.
Vicky’s nieces and nephews would like to thank Joan Thielbar and the current and former staff members at Sun City West Assisted Living for the excellent care they gave both Vicky and Ted.
