Urvashi Shah, daughter of the late Rasiklal and Aruna Sheth, and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, has passed away at her home after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease at the age of 76.
Urvashi was born in Uttar Pradesh, India, and spent most of her childhood and young adult life in the city of Ghatkopar, just outside of Mumbai. After the passing of her father, Urvashi and her younger sister, Chhaya, raised their youngest siblings, Rita and Pintu. As the oldest sibling, she took on the responsibilities of running an entire household and learned how to overcome adversity at a very young age.
She married Jagdish Shah, also of Ghatkopar, at the age of 27 and moved to the United States in 1973. She raised her daughters, Payal and Priya, in Bloomingdale, IL, until 2000, when she moved to Chicago’s West Loop neighborhood, where she spent the remainder of her life. She was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in 2006, which she bravely fought for almost 20 years.
All who knew her describe her as kind, caring, and the strongest person, mentally and physically, they know. She fought and succeeded over numerous health issues always with great resilience and a positive spirit. Her greatest passions were her connection with God, her spirituality and her family, especially her children and grandson, Ayan, who were the joys of her life.
