Tom J. Thomas, age 95, of Evanston, IL, died Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at Elevate Care Riverwoods, in Riverwoods, IL.

Son of the late John and Xenia, née Kokoinos, Thomas, he was born on September 22, 1927, in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Tom was a 1945 graduate of Cedar Rapids High School and went on to earn his B.A. and M.A. with a Fulbright Scholarship to the University of Iowa. He served honorably during WWII in the United States Navy. During his time in the service, he was on a transport trip onboard the USS Antietam for six months, traveling to Honolulu, the Philippines, and China. Tom worked in education for over 35 years as a school counselor at Niles North High School in Skokie, IL. He enjoyed traveling to Samos, Greece, to visit family for several months at a time. Tom wanted to be remembered as truthful, gentle, and fearless. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Tom is survived and lovingly remembered by his sister, Helen Litsis, as well as nieces and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, George Litsis.

Visitation, Tuesday, April 25, 2023, from 12:30 p.m. until time of Funeral Service, 1 p.m., at St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church, 501 A Ave. NE, Cedar Rapids, IA. The Rev. Dr. Peter Andronache will officiate. Interment, Linwood Cemetery, 520 Wilson Ave. SW, Cedar Rapids.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church, 501 A Ave. NE, Cedar Rapids, IA, 52401.
