Thomas J Sullivan passed away at his Chicago home on February 5, 2022, at the age of 81. He was the third of five children born to Thomas and Mae (Kinney) Sullivan in Bergen County, New Jersey, on August 18, 1940. He graduated from North Arlington High School in 1958, and joined the United States Army. Following his military service, he worked for several banks in their technology departments in Jersey City, NJ, and later, Chicago, Illinois, his adopted hometown. At one time, he owned his own bowling alley in the Jersey Shore area. He spent numerous volunteer hours at St. Joseph Hospital in Chicago.
Thomas is predeceased by his parents, his brother Robert and sister-in-law Joyce, sister Geraldine and brother-in-law Edward McCabe, and brother William. He leaves behind one brother, Richard H. Sullivan and sister-in-law, Fernanda A. Sullivan of Missouri, sister-in-law, Maria Sullivan of New Jersey, numerous nieces, nephews, both grand and great nieces and nephews scattered throughout the United States, and more friends than anyone might imagine all around the world.
Thoughts of UT (that’s how Uncle Tommy preferred to be referenced) immediately bring about a smile. He was fun loving, a great bowler, a wonderful dancer, a superb friend and just a plain good guy. Did someone say Bombay Sapphire gin and tonic? He loved to cruise, and take trips abroad; Ireland being a favorite destination. He enjoyed morning coffee with his friends at the Go Grocer in his building, dinner at Yoshi’s Café, burgers at The Reservoir. He lived a full life for sure, on his own terms, and for that he is much admired by all who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed. And, yet, we smile.
Memorial Service, Saturday, April 23, 2022, at 1 p.m., at HABEN Funeral Home & Crematory, 8057 Niles Center Rd., Skokie.
