Sam Joseph Battaglia age 91, of Skokie. Passed away peacefully on May 11, 2020. He was born into the family of Francis and Joseph Battaglia and had 4 siblings: Marie (Bob) Wyatt, Lorraine (Richard) Rasmussen, Robert (Rita) Battaglia, and the late Florence (the late Robert) Blade. He went to St. Mary of the Woods grade school and then St. George High School where he enjoyed playing on their football team. He married the love of his life Marilyn, nee Wimble, in 1950 and became the proud and loving parents to 4 children Kathleen (the late James) Karlson, Stephen (Kathy), Philip (Patricia), and Barbara Ann (Daniel) Montcalm. He will be fondly remembered by 13 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. Sam and Marilyn were married for 68 years before her passing 2 years ago. They shared many happy years together in their retirement. During their active years, they loved to travel and were fortunate to have been able to experience, Europe, Alaska, Jamaica, Caribbean, Mexico and Hawaii as well as many of the states across the US, while paying visits to their many friends and family. They always enjoyed the good times of gathering with Sam’s family up at his brother’s Bob home, and the relaxation of cruising Wonder Lake. They spent many evenings playing cards with dear friends and taking long weekend trips golfing or fishing. They always savored the special times with the many family celebrations that took place throughout the years which included birthdays, holidays, weddings, christenings, and retirements to name a few. They were always there to show their loving support as they mourned the loss of family and friends that comes with living a long life. They both lived life to the fullest in their most active years and as their lives slowed down, they were there for each other; and now, they are together once again. In compliance with health and public safety directives, a public Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Lambert Catholic Church, Skokie, in the future. Memorial contributions may be made to The Alzheimer’s Association, 8430 W. Bryn Mawr Ave., Suite 800, Chicago, IL, 60631. Funeral info: 847.673.6111 or www.habenfuneral.com to sign guestbook.
