Ronald Amerigo Sero, born December 17, 1935, in Chicago, IL, passed away October 23, 2019, at the age of 83. The son of southern Italian immigrants, Carl and Anna Sero, Ron grew up around Grand Avenue, attending and graduating from St. Mel High School in 1954, under the tutelage of the Christian Brothers. It was during this time that he met his future wife, Jo Ann Wayman. After marrying in 1957, they settled in Bellwood, IL, eventually moving to Skokie, IL, where they raised their three children.
A wood finisher by trade, Ron spent 52 years working with his hands, restoring and finishing fine wood items. In his free time, he enjoyed relaxing and passed the time fishing, listening to jazz, watching classic musicals, and enjoying a good glass of burgundy with family and friends at his kitchen table. In his later years, he’d often reminisce about the interesting characters he grew up around back in his youth in one of Chicago’s heavily Italian communities. Ron will be remembered for his wry sense of humor, keen knowledge of history, and love of fishing.
Loving husband, brother, father, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle, Ron is survived by: his sister, Carol (Norman) Hafertepe; his children, Marie (Ron) Widner, Thomas (Patty), and Stephen (Debbie); grandchildren, Sarah (Todd) Hicks, Lisa (Ryan) Ptak, Ashley, Cody, Michelle, Nicholas, and Kailey; great-grandchildren, Dylan, Hayden and Cooper. He is joined together again in heaven with his parents, Carl and Anna, and beloved wife, Jo Ann.
Visitation, Monday, October 28, 2019, from 9 a.m. until time of Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m., at St. Catherine Labouré Catholic Church, 3535 Thornwood Av., Glenview. All are invited to attend and celebrate the life of Ronald Amerigo Sero. Private Interment, at Ridgewood Memorial Park, Des Plaines, at a later date.
