Richard Harlan Lyons, age 74, of Chicago. Beloved father of Tracy (Andrew) Lyons and Courtney (Tohru) Lyons; cherished grandfather of Parker, Lucy, and Truman; fond brother of Donna Michaelis, Dennis Lyons, and the late Pat Stalzer.
Richard was a man of simple pleasures. He loved being a father and a grandfather. He was faithful to his Chicago Cubs. He spent summer days along the beach at Lake Michigan, ready with a weather report and a comment on lake water temperatures, always working on his tan. For being such a private and sometimes solitary person, Richard was able to touch many lives with his humor, his generosity, and his positive outlook.
Two causes important to him in his life include the UIC Community Outreach Intervention Projects (https://coip.uic.edu/ ), School of Public Health, 1603 W. Taylor St., Chicago, IL, 60612 and the Alliance for the Great Lakes (https://greatlakes.org/ ), 150 N. Michigan Av., Suite 700, Chicago, Il, 60601. In lieu of flowers, a gift to either of these organizations in Richard’s honor would be meaningful to him and to his family.
An informal memorial gathering will be held at Prairie Moon Restaurant and Bar, 1635 Chicago Av., Evanston, IL, on Friday, January 3, 2020, from 5 to 8 p.m. In true Richard fashion, there will be breakfast for dinner and an opportunity to share a few laughs.
