Michael A. Tannehill, age 72, of Chicago, died Thursday, August 11, 2022, at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, Park Ridge.

Son of the late Harry A. and Rosemary, née Knutson, Tannehill, he was born June 18, 1950, in Chicago.

Retired Chicago Police Officer of 32 years (Districts 24 and 19).

Beloved husband of Elsie, née Satizabal; loving father of Nathalie, Michelle, Melissa, and Matthew; dear grandfather of Ryan Michelle, Tyler, Olivia, and Alanna; fond brother of Harry Jr. (Suzanne), Brian (Denise), and Marty (Karen).

Visitation, Monday, August 15, 2022, from 3 to 8 p.m., at HABEN Funeral Home & Crematory, 8057 Niles Center Rd., Skokie.

Funeral, Tuesday, August 16, at 9:30 a.m., from the funeral home, for Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m., at St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church, 6955 N. Hiawatha Ave., Chicago.

Interment, Mt. Carmel Catholic Cemetery, Hillside.

Uncle Mike was a good man. I always enjoyed the opportunity to be his wingman during security at the Riviera. Watching the Notre dame game with him and my Dad back in late 2018 was a great time listening to the old Chicagoan’s talk. I wish the family peace now and in the future knowing he will always be looking out for everyone.

Mike, my good buddy and closest of friends I will miss you greatly. So many memories to look back upon as we did often to relive those fun neighborhood times. From minibikes, to rent a honda, to your '56 Chevy w baby moons and glass pack the travlels were alway adventurous. Your strong and loving family foundation made you the great son, brother, husband, father, policeman, and friend you always were. When Heaven's football game is played make sure the QB calls your favorite play. "Bomba on 1." Rest in peace and know you lived a blessed life that will not be forgotten.

I’m so sorry to hear that Mike passed away. We all grew up since his mother and dad we best friends of my parents. Joyce & John Cserep. I only kept in touch with Mike’s Mom, Rosemary. Never had pleasure to meet Elsie. Sorry 😞 for your loss. Sounds like Mike left behind a wonderful family. I would like to come for the visitation on the 15th. I just got my husband Joel home. He was in nursing facility 4 years in Highland Park and almost lost him last week. Hospital sent him home to me on Tuesday, the 9th August. My deepest condolences to the family of Michael. As one of the cousins, I had the opportunity to work in the same areas with Michael and his father Harry Sr.. I can remember when Harry Sr. walked into my firehouse in uniform on Racine and Wilson and asked to see his cousin "Charlie"(1968). Many years later Michael walked into my firehouse as a police officer at 4900 W. Chicago Ave. and asked to see his cousin, "Charlie" It was like his Dad walking in years prior. I have fond memories of both men.. May they both rest in peace together.

My most sincere and heartfelt condolences to Mike's beloved Family and loved ones and his countless friends. We were lifelong friends since early grammar school and played often at Pottawatomi Park. We were football opponents at SMM and St Jerome's and teammates at St. George. Mike was a great friend and a formidable enemy. Mike was large-souled and had the instinctive honesty that accompanies courageousness. Mike was highly esteemed by all who knew him. I am very sorry to hear of passing at too early and age, and will greatly miss him. A Dragon forever.
