Marlyn Farber, nee Stoneberg, age 94, of Skokie. Beloved wife of the late Edward C.; dear mother of Jayne (Tom Wagner) Farber and Joan (Patrick) Griffiths; adoring grandmother of Lucy and Colton Griffiths; fond sister of Donald (Joyce) Stoneberg, June (Frank) LaMantia, Lois (LeRoy) Arndt and Patricia Smith; former mother-in-law to Jim Mastakas.
Marlyn was “Aunt Marlyn” to many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, and great grand nieces and nephews. Even those not related would call her “Aunt Mar” or “Mom”.
She was a loving, amazing person, the kind that would make a life long friend after meeting someone just once.
Marlyn and Edward were married in 1945 during WWII. They were inseparable until his passing 67 years later.
She was a great help to Edward and his American Legion duties at Skokie Post 320.
She was a longtime member of St. Paul’s Lutheran church in Skokie. She was active in her children’s school PTA at Old Orchard Jr. High. She was on the Executive board at Jane Stenson elementary school, where she ran the school store and also volunteered there assisting kids with reading and learning English.
She was a great Mom. Always there with an after school snack, dropping off a forgotten assignment, getting a stain out of a favorite shirt and always finding that lost item.
She just adored her grandkids, Lucy and Colton, and she was so proud of them. She loved grandparent’s days, school plays, horse shows, birthday parties and family vacations. Marlyn loved taking family cruises and dancing with Edward.
Marlyn was such a caring person. She would lovingly take in “strays”….dogs, birds, a duck, a mouse, friends, family. She would do everything she could to help such as waking up every 2 hours to feed a baby bird with an eyedropper. Her heart and her home were always open with the coffee pot ready to go.
She is gone from this Earth, but never from our hearts. Anyone that was the recipient of her smile, now has an Angel. She is smiling down and letting them know, it will be okay. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her.
