Margaret Neises, née Sheehan, died peacefully on Friday, September 2, 2022, in her Evanston, IL, home, surrounded by her children. She was born on October 23, 1935, in Chicago, the daughter of Mary, née Meade, and William Sheehan. Margaret was predeceased by her beloved husband, Thomas Neises, and is survived by her children, Kathleen “Kelly” Neises Conway (Bradford Kelley), Ann Kulevich (Rick), and Tom Neises (Michael Skelley). She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Liam, Patrick, and Maggie Conway and Jack, Katie, and Jane Kulevich. She was predeceased by her six siblings, Helen, Mary, Tommy, James, Jerry, and Bernard.
Margaret’s greatest passions were her faith, students, and family. She dedicated her life to the education, growth, and development of young people, working as a teacher and elementary school principal for over 40 years in Cleveland, OH; Barrington, IL; and Charleston, SC. Even after she and her husband, Tom, “retired,” she continued to follow her calling by teaching and advocating for students with learning challenges at St. John Neumann Catholic High School in Naples, FL. She finally truly retired in 2020 at the age of 83 and moved back to Chicago to be close to her family. As one of her beloved colleagues at SJN wrote, “Margaret worked tirelessly to bring out the best in each of her students. She lived her Catholic faith through love, service and humility and made a difference in so many lives. May her legacy carry on in those whose lives she touched.”
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to Saint John Neumann Catholic High School, 3000 53rd St. SW, Naples, FL, 34116 (sjnceltics.org/sjn-giving).
