Lean Amir Oaing passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at the young age of 21, leaving his family deeply saddened by his sudden departure.
Born on August 4, 2001, Amir is survived by his beloved parents, Leandro and Miraflor, as well as his siblings, Lean Ira, his sister; Leandro Jr., his brother; and Katie Bean, his brother’s fiancée. He also leaves behind his two lovely cats, Lily and Ruby. Amir’s grandparents were Eugenio and Myrna Calicdan, Alfredo and the late Rosa Oaing; other grandparents, Susan Gabriel and the late Danilo Gabriel, Norieta and Fermin Paz; and great-grandparents, Aurelio and Anita Gabriel.
Amir was born in Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija, Philippines, and moved to Chicago, Illinois, with his family when he was just two years old. He attended Old Orchard Junior High School, where he played in the band, and later went on to attend Niles North High School, where he was recognized as Track & Field Rookie of the Year in 2016 and Comeback Athlete of the Year in 2017. He completed his Associate’s Degree in Liberal Arts at Oakton Community College, graduating Cum Laude (With Honors).
To those who knew Amir, he was a lovely, smart, talented, funny, and inspiring young man. Amir loved music from a very young age. He learned to play several musical instruments, including trumpet, trombone, saxophone, piano, and guitar. He also produced his own music and released his work under the name “YUMMiR”.
Amir was a simple, humble and obedient person, who had a lifelong dream of taking care of his parents while traveling the world with them. His amiable attitude will be missed by all, including his uncles and aunts, Basil Julius Calicdan, Lilybeth Calicdan, and Venus Calicdan-Saberola, Florence Calicdan and Joseph Edrada, Roderick Oaing and Shirley Fontanilla, Robert and Winelyn Oaing, Michael and Jenny Oaing; other uncle and uncle, Froy Tristan and Faye and Fatt Paz; cousins, Clair, Sheila, RG, and Joy Calicdan, Anthony and Abigail Oaing, Angelo, Maya and Mimi Oaing; Jacob Algo, only nephew and godchild; and cousins he never met in person, Sean, Nicholas, Justine, and Adelle Oaing. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends, but his memory will live on forever.

Funeral, Saturday, May 13, at 12:45 p.m., from the funeral home, for Mass of Christian Burial, 1 p.m., at St. Peter Church of Ss. Peter & Lambert Catholic Parish, 8100 Niles Center Rd., Skokie.
Memorial Service and Urn Interment, Friday, August 4, 2023, at Maryhill Catholic Cemetery, Niles. Further details will be announced closer to the date.
