Kathleen A. Kallan passed away Wednesday, August 31, 2022, at NorthShore Evanston Hospital.
A longtime resident of the Rogers Park neighborhood in Chicago, Kate was born March 13, 1950, in Joliet, to the late Harry C. and Marjorie A. Kallan. She graduated from St. Francis Academy in Joliet and received her bachelor of arts degree in 1972 from Loyola University, where she majored in French. She began her career in the travel industry and later transitioned to banking, working at the Continental Bank in Chicago and retiring from Bank of America in 2018.
Kate married the late Anthony C. Chereck on February 16, 1980. She loved to travel, having studied at Loyola Rome Center during her college years and visited many destinations around the world with her husband and friends. She was also a lover of the arts, attending the theater, symphony and opera. Kate was a gifted chef who enjoyed cooking and hosted her family for many memorable Thanksgiving meals. She loved to entertain, organizing dinner parties filled with singing, dancing, playing games, and laughter at her and her husband’s home. She was especially fond of her beloved Schnauzers, Dietrich, Dagmar and Dianah.
Kate was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. She is survived by her siblings, Daniel Kallan (Sharon), Jane Kallan Marra (Michael), Anita Wohlrab, Cynthia Brandt (the late Michael), and David Kallan, along with eight nieces and nephews.
Visitation, Tuesday, September 6, 2022, from 4 to 8 p.m., at HABEN Funeral Home & Crematory, 8057 Niles Center Rd., Skokie.
Funeral, Wednesday, September 7, at 10:15 a.m., from the funeral home, for Mass of Christian Burial, 10:30 a.m., at St. Peter Church of Ss. Peter & Lambert Catholic Parish, 8100 Niles Center Rd., Skokie.
Interment, St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, River Grove.
