Joseph F. Zawadzki, 87, of Skokie, IL, formerly of Rouses Point, NY, passed away on Saturday, June 11, 2022. Beloved husband of Eugenia, née Kizior; devoted father to Joseph Francis Zawadzki II, of North Charleston, SC, Mary Tekla (Greg) Carr, of Redwood City, CA, and Eugenia (Greg) Andrews, of Erie, PA. Born May 30, 1935, on the family farm in Withee, WI, to the late Walter and Joanne, née Pogodzinski, Zawadzki. Brother to David, Gabriel, Dorothy (Roth) and the late Lawrence ; brother-in-law of Bernadette Kizior.

He graduated from Northland College (Ashland, WI) with a B. A. degree in Chemistry; Loyola University (Chicago, IL) with M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Organic Chemistry; and completed post-doctoral work at the University of Chicago. He was a research scientist for G.D. Searle and Wyeth-Ayerst / Pfizer.

He was an avid gardener and berry picker and longtime parishioner of St. Patrick Catholic Church (Rouses Point, NY) and St. Lambert Catholic Church (Skokie, IL).

Visitation, Friday, June 17, 2022, from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass of Christian Burial, 10:30 a.m., at St. Lambert Church of Ss. Peter & Lambert Catholic Parish, 8148 Karlov Ave., Skokie. Interment, St. Adalbert Catholic Cemetery, Niles, IL.

To Mrs. Zawadzki and Family: My sincerest condolences, though belated, over the passing of your loved one. As I happened across this obituary, I realized that you were my English Teacher at Gage Park High School back in 1963-1964. Though I am sure that after these many decades you do not remember me as a student, I feel fortunate for this unexpected opportunity (sad though it is for you) to acknowledge your presence in my educational life during those formative years. As students, we often do not realize that teachers "are people too," as then (and now) they deserve to know their efforts were (are) appreciated. I have come to realize how remiss I have been to remember and recognize the contributions of the Gage Park Faculty from those years. So to conclude, I mourn your loss while highlighting your efforts to set students as us down positive and fulfilling paths of life. --- Robert Loewe / Gage Park Class of 1965 (!!!
