Jeanne L. McCarthy, age 94, was born to eternal life on Thursday, January 5, 2023. She died peacefully at home in Glenview, IL, with her son, Tom, by her side.
Jeanne was born in Rockford, IL, on September 5, 1928, the second child to Marjorie, née Parker, and Francis D. Corcoran. The family moved to Chicago in the late 1930’s, where Jeanne attended grade school, St. Scholastica Academy, and enrolled at Mundelein College. In her youth, Jeanne worked at a clothing design company in Chicago. When her boys were grown, Jeanne worked for many years in the office of Carson’s department store.
She met the love of her life in grade school, Martin B. McCarthy Jr. They were united in marriage on February 22, 1951, in Chicago. Jeanne and Marty first lived in Chicago, then Detroit, MI, before they settled in Glenview, to raise their five sons. They enjoyed 70 years of marriage before Marty’s passing last January.
Jeanne was a bright, quick-witted, determined, and elegant matriarch. As a mother, wife, sister, and daughter, Jeanne was a selfless caregiver and espoused unconditional love. She had strong core values and set high standards for her family, always with love and affection. Marty traveled extensively for his career, often with Jeanne by his side. In their later years, they traveled, and hosted family and friends in Williams Bay, WI.
Jeanne is survived by her five sons, Michael (Phoebe), Thomas (Patty), Daniel (Gretchen), Patrick (Sue), and Robert (Hayley), and daughter-in-law, Margo. She is further survived by 10 grandchildren, Katie (Bret) Sharp, Michael, Colm, John, Matt (Haley), Liam, Brenden, Caitlin, Elizabeth, and Thomas and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Thomas (Colette) Corcoran, and many nieces and nephews.
Jeanne was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by her husband, Martin B. McCarthy Jr.; her brother, William Corcoran, and her sister, Patricia Tate; and her grandson, Kevin (Irene) McCarthy.
