Jim was a classmate and roommate at St Meinrad during HS and two years of college. We connected afewyears ago when my daughter moved to Chicago and have stayed in touch. We talked every once in awhile and I will miss those calls. A good friend.
Carol Schuck Scheiber left a message on February 13, 2023:
My sympathies to Jim's friends and family. The beautiful obituary published here captures Jim's generous spirit. As a young 20-something at St. Thomas of Canterbury in the 1980s, Jim was consistently kind and inviting toward me--and everyone! His life touched so many, and there is solace and inspiration in seeing a life well lived. May he rest in peace.

What a man! When I first walked around the neighborhood of the Catholic Worker in Uptown we stopped by Jim’s apartment about a block from the Worker House. I may be wrong, but I think Rick Becker was his roommate and a homeless person was living there too… he was always grounded, gentle, kind… funny.
Thomas Florek sj left a message on February 11, 2023:
Jim Eder is added to the litany of "All those Holy Men and Women" for his life long commitment to service with love to the people of Uptown. Thank you Jim for your example.
Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.

Jim, you were a big part of Jenny and my formation as a new catholics. I still remember your thoughtful stories about life in the monastery, mistakes you made, and your walk with Christ. Some of my favorite memories include going to that crazy german restaurant where you ate a giant bowl of steak tartar with raw quail eggs and capers and everybody held their beer stein aloft during the polka music and then passed them around the table; eating sausages at the rectory and having good conversation; and that time you were helping me buy lumber for the St. Thomas Parish sign and as we passed the Orthodox church, you rolled down the window and yelled, "Flioque you sons of b*tches!" I have not many times since laughed so hard. You brought a lot of processed meats and joy into our lives, and we are so sad this old world has to go on without you. Your life was a gift to us. Pray for us and we will pray for you dear friend.
