Jack Harbaugh, born in Evanston, IL, on January 30, 1937, passed peacefully surrounded by family on December 13, 2020.

Jack married Donna Harrigan in 1957 and raised their four children in Morton Grove, IL. Jack worked for 47 years at Northern Illinois Gas (Nicor). After retiring, Jack applied his expertise at GTI, Gas Technology Institute, where he was named on two US Patents. Jack enjoyed hunting, scuba diving, and kayaking with his children and grandchildren, and winning numerous car show awards with his classic ’52 Chevy pickup.

Jack is survived by his beloved wife, Donna; children, John (Linda), Nancy (Bob), Tim (Sarah), and Steve (Sue); grandchildren, Julie, Michael, Laura, Jeff, Rachel, and Jack; seven great-grandchildren; his sister, Carol Grochocinski; and sister-in-law, Joyce Perkins.

Funeral Mass at St. Peter Catholic Church, Skokie, and Interment at St. Peter Catholic Cemetery, Skokie, are private.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Knew Jack during his whole career at Nicor. Great gentleman! My condolences.

Jack trained me 34years ago, he trained me well! I learned a lot from him he was a great knowledgeable person! The family should be very proud of his accomplishments! My sincere condolences to the family!

Dixon and my thoughts go out to Jack's family during these tough times. He was a wonderful man. Always had a smile and could explain everything. We both worked at Ni-Gas. He will be missed.

Jack was one of those people that you needed to know in your own lifetime. For all whom he touched he made his many great traits obvious . Rest In Peace Jack

My sincere condolences to the Harbaugh family. I was saddened to learn of Jack’s passing. He is a beloved figure at NIGas/Nicor. All who knew him respected his vast knowledge of everything gas related. Jack also had a great sense of humor. He loved to tell stories and laugh, especially at himself. I feel fortunate to have known him as my trainer, my coworker, and above all, my friend. RIP Jack.

So sorry to hear of Jack's passing; I worked with him for many years at the Training Center in Bellwood and lastly at the General Office campus in Naperville. He was such a creative guy in his approach to developing training props and modules. He will be missed!

My condolences to Jack and his family. This news was very sad for us all as we were family as well here at Northern Illinois Gas (Nicor). Jack touched many lives including mine. He took personal interest in my field training when I started in 1986 just out of high school. He was a wealth of knowledge and experience, yet he was even a better man with humor and integrity. I will make sure I shine a light on my blue handled channel locks in his memory. He taught me and all of us so much. Rest in Peace Jack. Blessings to the Harbaugh family.

Jack was the most giving person and the knowledge he shared with all of us was priceless. He was a mentor, a friend, and funny. He will truly be missed especially in the gas industry.

My sincere condolences to you and your family. I know you won't know a lot of us that will probably send their condolences but we are all part of Jacks family at Nicor Gas (Northern Illinois Gas). Jack was one of a kind and one of the greatest trainers our company will ever have. I can't even begin to tell you how many of us here at Nicor that Jack certified throughout his career but every time his name gets brought up, there are great memories and stories to go with it. He has touched many many lives and holds a special place in our thoughts and memories. He was definitely one of a kind and will be missed dearly. Again, my condolences to you and your family for your loss.

He was great to work with from late 1997 til Jack retired from NICOR Gas Technical Training Center. Jack answered any questions about appliances, he knew the issue was. Jack has helped me out as well. He was a great MENTOR to all of us at Technical Training Center. Jack will be greatly missed.

I am so glad that I had the opportunity to know Jack. I first met Jack at Nicor Gas but it was at GTI where I truly understood the wonderful person that Jack was. He was a person that loved his work and loved to teach others through his amazing experience. And did I mention work? He was the hardest worker I know. One of the guys at GTI stated "Jack was the youngest old guy I knew, just a bundle of energy!" I will miss Jack. We will all miss Jack. But we are all blessed to have known Jack and the impact he made on each of us.

I am so sorry to hear of Jack's passing. It was my good fortune to work with Jack at Nicor's Training Center for several years. I was truly "wet behind the ears" when I came into the Training Center. I can't describe how much I learned about the gas business from Jack, but one thing that will always stick with me was how he treated his students. He was kind and patient with them, making sure they had the tools they needed to be successful in their careers. Jack left an indelible mark on Nicor and the gas industry. He will truly be missed.

I am so sorry for your loss. Uncle Jack was such a great person and a wonderful uncle to all of us. We had so many good times and I will remember it always. My prayers are with all of you and with Aunt Donna at this time.
