Herbert A. Ross, age 62, passed away peacefully on Wednesday November 23, 2022. He fought a courageous battle against a glioblastoma brain tumor, with his loving husband, Jack, at his side every step of the way. He will be dearly missed by those who loved him.

Herb was born on June 27, 1960, to Donald and Karola Ross of Skokie. He graduated from Niles East High School and from Northeastern University, later earning an MBA from Roosevelt University. Herb met the love of his life, Jack Brunner, while taking summer classes at Oakton Community College. Jack and Herb were inseparable for over 30 years, spending only one night apart in all that time.

Herb was dedicated to his family and was always ready to lend a hand to anyone who needed help. A talented and successful businessman, Herb rose through the ranks at Standard Stationary Supply to become Vice President. His accounting and IT skills were second to none, and he wrote many custom software applications for Standard’s warehousing and sales divisions.

In later years, Herb worked at T3L, where he made many good friends and put his customer service and IT skills to good use.

Herb loved music, and he and Jack traveled extensively throughout the U.S. to attend many Phish, Yes, and Grateful Dead concerts. Jack & Herb were also avid roller coaster and water park enthusiasts and visited numerous amusement parks over the years.

Fluffhead the bird was Herb’s best animal friend for over 25 years and benefitted from Herb’s constant love and attention. Jack and Fluff will think of Herb every day when they play together.

At Herb’s request, there will be no formal wake. However, on Saturday, December 3, 2022, at 11 a.m., we will hold a short Committal Service in the Interment Chapel at All Saints Catholic Cemetery, 700 N. River Rd., Des Plaines. All are welcome to attend. One last thing – Herb hated wearing suits and ties, and as such, he said he doesn’t want to make anyone dress up to see him off. So dress casually and join us in remembering Herb.
