Elsie B. Brennan, nee Herz, age 92, passed away on Tuesday, June 8, 2021, at the Lutheran Home in Arlington Hts., with family by her side.
Elsie was born to the late Hugo and Louise, nee Benkhardt, Herz on July 6, 1928, in Chicago. Sister to the late Ruth McGowan, she was a 1947 graduate of Kelly High School in Chicago.
She married the late Edward P. Brennan in 1952. They lived and raised a family in Skokie for over 40 years. Upon the passing of her husband in 1997, she relocated to Arlington Hts., to be closer to family.
Elsie worked for many years as a Deputy Assessor for Niles Township in Skokie.
Elsie was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be remembered for her amazing spirit and resilience as she battled cancer numerous times and during the Covid lockdown. Despite the hardships, she was known to crack jokes and keep everyone laughing. She was adored and called “Gigi” by all, while she would lovingly refer to all her family as “Lovie.” She was enormously proud of her growing family and was always excited to talk about their accomplishments.
Elsie is survived by her four children, Donna (Rusty) Mueller of Arlington Hts., William (Christie) Brennan of Arlington Hts., John (Cathy) Brennan of Third Lake, and Kathleen (Steven) Schultz of Buffalo Grove; 14 grandchildren, Timothy (Jennifer) Mueller, Kelly (Mark) Eterno, Kerry (John) Morris, Kaitlyn (Joel) Koester, Patrick (Angelique) Brennan, Meghan Brennan, John (Meghan) Brennan, Molly (Gus) Bloink, Kelly (Andrew) Marks, Brian (Sarah) Brennan, Sean (Brooke) Brennan, and Shannon, Ryan, and Kaleigh Schultz; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Visitation, Friday, June 11, 2021, from 9 a.m. until time of Funeral Mass, 10 a.m., at St. Edna Catholic Church, 2525 N. Arlington Hts. Rd., Arlington Hts. Interment, All Saints Catholic Cemetery, Des Plaines.
