Dorothy A. Reith, age 96, of Chicago, IL, died Sunday, November 13, 2022, at her residence. The daughter of Harry and Loretta, née Eddy, Reith, she was born August 29, 1926, in Kenosha, WI. She attended St. James Grade School, Lincoln Jr. High School, and Bradford High School in Kenosha. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin Madison with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology in 1949. In 1964, she received a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Loyola University Chicago.
Dorothy was employed as a case worker for several years in Mauston, WI, before moving to Chicago. There she was first employed at Cook County Court Services before accepting a position at Catholic Charities. She began as a caseworker in the Adoption Department, moving through a variety of other positions, all relating to children. In 1981, she was appointed Division Manager in charge of the primary services for Children and Youth, a position she held until her retirement in 1990. Throughout her life she loved traveling all over the world, golfing, hiking, and bird watching. At every opportunity Dorothy went snorkeling with her friends in Grand Cayman Island, having added fish watching to her enthusiasms. A longtime member of St. Ignatius Catholic Parish in Chicago, she was active in the Glenola Women’s Club and Bridge Club.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Audrey Reith; and her sister and brother-in-law, Lois and Richard Sexton. She is survived by four nieces, Cheryl Reith-Kincaid of Wisconsin Rapids, WI; Barb (Jerry) Grevenow of Waterford, WI; Nancy Bichsel of Kenosha, WI; and Gail Carravetta of Grand Junction, CO; four great-nephews, Eric Hale of Wisconsin Rapids, WI; Nick (Cara) Bichsel of Racine, WI; Brian (Colleen) Grevenow of North Oaks, MN; and Matt (Jill) Grevenow of Jackson, WI; and numerous great-great- nieces and nephews.
Visitation, Monday, November 28, 2022, from 9 a.m. until time of Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m., at St. James Catholic Church, 5804 Sheridan Rd, Kenosha, WI, 53140.
