Chandra Prabha Bapu

Chandra Prabha Bapu (nee Holla) died peacefully at her home on the northwest side of Chicago on Tuesday June 19, 2018 at the age 72.  Chandra was born to parents K. Krishna Holla (d) and Gouri Devi (d) on August 23, 1945 near Udupi, India.  She was raised in Gwalior, India as the oldest of four children.  She emigrated to the United States shortly after marriage.  She taught high school physics for nearly 30 years, mostly at Whitney Young High School, until her retirement in 2005.  She loved her family, friend and colleagues, and absolutely adored her grandchildren.  Chandra is survived by her husband of 48 years, H.R. Bapu; her son, Deepak (Pankaja) and daughter, Aparna; her grandson, Arvind and granddaughter, Elina; her sister, Usha Friedrich and brother, Udaya Holla; numerous nieces and nephews; and relatives in the United States and India.  Chandra loved teaching and working at Whitney Young High School.  She was highly instrumental in maintaining family relationships across many continents.  She was regarded as generous   and positively impacted many lives.  She will be deeply missed.

Hindu Pooja Service (private), Sunday, June 24, 2018, from 10 a.m. until time of Cremation, 1 p.m., at HABEN Funeral Home & Crematory, 8057 Niles Center Rd., Skokie.  An open-house style celebration of her life will be held Sunday, July 1, 2018 at her home, 6635 N Onarga Avenue, Chicago, starting at noon.
