Blanca C. Gonzalez, née Roman, age 92, of Skokie, Illinois, originally of Cochabamba, Bolivia, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Christmas Eve.
Beloved wife of the late Carlos F. Gonzalez; loving mother of Marianela Gonzalez and Cynthia Gonzalez; dearest grandmother of Alexandra and Andrea Cannon; fond sister of the late Maria Palmira (Jose) Veizaga, the late Bertha (Federico) Tejada, the late Maria Rosa (Jorge) Rivero, and Maria Luisa (Wilfredo) Velez; loving aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Blanca studied Physical Education at the Instituto Nacional y Superior de Educacion Fisica and taught until age 36 in her native La Paz, Bolivia. She was also a Girl Guide leader. She redid her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Bilingual Education at National Louis University, then National College of Education, in 1976 and 1989. She was a retired Chicago Public School teacher. She was devoted to all her students, especially those at Bernhard Moos School and the Frances Rocha Center in Humboldt Park. She was a friend and faculty member to many.
She loved to spend her time surrounded by family and friends playing board games, cards (especially Uno), and doing word searches. Blanca enjoyed watching all sports and cheering on her children and grandchildren throughout the years. When the weather permitted, she loved to admire her flower and vegetable gardens and enjoy the sunshine.
Visitation, Thursday, December 29, 2022, from 3 to 8 p.m., at HABEN Funeral Home & Crematory, 8057 Niles Center Rd., Skokie.
Funeral, Friday, December 30, at 9:30 a.m., from the funeral home, for Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m., at St. Lambert Church of Ss. Peter & Lambert Catholic Parish, 8148 Karlov Ave., Skokie.
Interment, All Saints Catholic Cemetery, Des Plaines.
