Beverley Ann Wallberg Compton, age 84, of Chicago, died Tuesday, December 14, 2021, at AMITA Health Resurrection Medical Center, in Chicago.
Beverley was born to Raymond and Irene Hedberg Wallberg on September 29, 1937, in Chicago.
Beverley was born and raised in Chicago with her older brother Richard. They grew up in Portage Park. Beverley attended Portage Park Elementary School and then Schurz High School where she graduated in 1955. She began college at St. Olaf in Northfield, MN, where she attended for 2 years before attending Northwestern University where she earned her BA and graduated Phi Beta Kappa. She would later obtain two masters degrees from National Louis University in Chicago. Beverley valued education and never stopped learning. She had a beautiful mind and was able to connect deeply with her students.
Beverley married the love of her life, Joseph Compton in 1957. They met at Nebo Lutheran Church before she went to college and that is what drew her back home to Chicago. They were married nearly 50 years before Joseph’s passing on Easter Sunday 2007. They created a beautiful life together in which they were inseparable. They adopted Philip (1966) and Andrew (1968) to complete a wonderful family. Beverley was a proud and loving wife and mother. Phil and Andy joined in their parents’ church work, vacationing at their cottage in Indiana, cabin and condo in Colorado and traveling around the world.
Beverley was equally as proud to be the mother-in-law to Jodi (Andy) and Cindy (Phil) Compton and grandmother to seven amazing grandsons, AJ, Trey, Drew, Ryan, Adam, Ben and Luke, ranging from 17 to 27 years of age.
Outside of her family Beverley centered her life around the church. It began in the Youth Group at Nebo, where she began friendships that would last a lifetime. Her Faith grew strong as Bev and Joe became members of Edgebrook Lutheran Church, a church where more lifelong friendships came to light and would become her spiritual home for the rest of her life. Beverley was very active in the church filling many roles from Sunday school teacher to church council president. Her Faith was beautiful and strong.
Beverley never lost her passion for education. She spent 25+ years teaching K-8 students in the Chicago Public Schools at Goethe in particular and at East Prairie in the neighboring suburb of Skokie.
Beverley loved her family, immediate and extended, as well as her friends that she also called family. She enjoyed visiting with them wherever that may have been. She loved to travel all over the world and during those travels met and once again formed friendships that are still in place today. She had a gift for making you feel and want to be part of the family.
God bless Beverley who was a devout servant and a loving woman who always reached out her hands to help those around her.
